The agreement

Terms of use

What Novel Aloud offers, what it asks of you, and what neither of us promises.

What this service is

Novel Aloud is an audio-first way to listen to serialized fiction. The stories, the chapters and the audio come from Arcwave, which owns them and decides what is published. We present that catalogue; we do not author it.

Your account

An account is optional for browsing and required to keep your place, follow stories, or hold a membership. Keep your sign-in details to yourself — anything done through your account is treated as done by you. You may close the account at any time.

Free listening and membership

Without a membership you may listen for a limited amount each day, and to a limited number of opening chapters in any story. A membership removes both limits for as long as it is active. Payment is handled by our payment provider, renews until cancelled, and can be cancelled at any time — cancelling stops the next renewal and leaves the current period running to its end.

What you may not do

Do not download, record, re-host or redistribute the audio; do not attempt to reach chapters your membership does not cover; do not automate access in ways that degrade the service for others; and do not attempt to break the sign-in or payment systems.

The catalogue changes

Stories arrive, are updated, and are sometimes withdrawn or reclassified by Arcwave. A title you were listening to can become unavailable through no decision of ours. Your saved position is kept, so if the title returns you resume where you stopped. We do not promise that any particular story stays available.

Availability

We aim to keep the service running and do not guarantee it is uninterrupted or error-free. Features may change as the service develops. Where a change removes something a membership was paying for, we will say so.

Rights in the content

The stories and the audio belong to Arcwave and the rights holders it works with. Nothing here transfers ownership of them to you; a membership buys access while it is active, not a copy you keep.

Privacy

What we store and who processes it is set out on the privacy page, and everything placed on your device is listed on the cookies and measurement page.
