Your data

Privacy

What Novel Aloud knows about you, which is less than you might expect.

What we hold

Novel Aloud stores no name, no email address, and no payment details. The only identifier in our database is an opaque account ID issued by Clerk, our sign-in provider. Everything else is what you did here:

WhatWhy
Stories you followTo show your library and mark new chapters.
Your place in a book — chapter and positionTo resume where you stopped.
Seconds listened per dayTo meter the free daily allowance. Nothing else reads it.
Membership tier and renewal dateTo know whether to unlock full listening.
Billing event IDs from our payment providerTo apply each payment event once. These record that an event happened, not what was paid or by whom.

Who else processes it

ServiceRole
ClerkSign-in and identity. Your email and login credentials live here, not with us.
VercelHosting, and optional traffic measurement you control.
NeonThe database holding the table above.
Whop and PayPalMembership payment. Card details are handled by them and never reach us.
ArcwaveThe catalogue and the audio. Arcwave is asked only for story facts and media files, and is never told who is asking.

Measurement

Traffic measurement is off until you allow it, sets no cookie, and builds no profile that follows you between sites. The cookies and measurement page lists every item stored on your device and lets you change your answer at any time.

How long we keep it

Follows, listening positions and membership state are kept while your account exists, because they are the account. Daily listening totals exist to meter the free tier. Billing event records are kept so a repeated payment notification is never applied twice.

Deleting your data

Deleting your Clerk account removes the identity every row here is keyed to. If you want the listening data itself removed while keeping the account, ask and we will remove it.

Your rights

Where the GDPR applies, you may request access to your data, correction, deletion, restriction, portability, and you may object to processing. Consent to measurement can be withdrawn at any time on the cookies and measurement page, and withdrawing it is as simple as giving it.
