This is not a claim about the whole webnovel world. Novel Aloud orders eligible stories using a privacy-safe rank derived from distinct listeners on this service. The underlying headcounts never appear on the public page.
When the listener signal is missing or temporarily unavailable, the module says so and falls back to a source-provided rating, then title. It does not quietly turn catalogue order into a popularity claim.
Audio readiness comes first
A story can rank only when at least one audio chapter is currently verified. That keeps this guide useful for someone who wants to listen now rather than admire a large but unplayable catalogue entry.

Use the rank as a doorway, not a verdict
A frequently chosen story is not automatically the right story for every listener. Genre, publication status, content guidance, narration, and the amount of audio already available can matter more than its place in a current shelf.
